When Niamh stopped using contraception in early 2022, she was excited to start trying for a baby. But when she experienced irregular bleeding and unexpected pain, she visited her GP – unaware that she was about to receive a life-changing diagnosis.
Following a referral to gynaecology, an ultrasound revealed endometriomas on her ovary. It was the first time Niamh had heard of endometriosis.
I didn’t have extremely painful periods, so it hadn’t even crossed my mind

As she learned more about the condition, she became concerned about the impact on her fertility.
In December 2022, a laparoscopy confirmed that she had stage 3 endometriosis and that both fallopian tubes were blocked due to scarring. Natural conception was very unlikely.
Niamh was referred for fertility treatment and began her journey with King’s Fertility. Her treatment went smoothly: she was able to freeze eight embryos and her first frozen embryo transfer resulted in a positive pregnancy test.
In April 2024, Niamh gave birth to her daughter, Josie Órla – named in memory of her late sister, Órla, who tragically passed away from anaphylactic shock while Niamh was pregnant.
“I originally chose King’s Fertility because the location was convenient, but I had no idea what to expect. I was quickly impressed by the approachable, empathetic and knowledgeable team. I felt I could completely trust them - they were always transparent about treatment options, costs and success rates. I also really valued the fact that they’re a research-led clinic. I knew their recommendations were based on evidence, not profit, which gave me huge confidence. I’m so grateful to King’s Fertility. Without their support, Josie wouldn’t be here.”

“The doctors and nurses at King’s Fertility were very approachable, empathetic and knowledgeable. I felt that I could completely trust them to do what was in my best interests and that they were invested in trying to help me achieve my dream of having a baby. " “Another aspect about Kings which I like is the fact that they do research and I trusted that whatever treatment they proposed was based on this rather than being based on making profits (compared to some other clinics). I think this is really important. I felt they were very transparent about everything including costs and success rates etc - and I really trusted them. “I am so grateful to the clinic as it wouldn’t have been possible without their help and I would highly recommend them to anyone who is facing difficulties trying to conceive.”
